Hanuman Janmotsav is one of the most spiritually uplifting festivals in India. Celebrated with great devotion, it marks the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman—known as the symbol of strength, devotion, and loyalty. In 2025, Hanuman Janmotsav will be observed on April 12, as per the Hindu Panchang.

Let’s explore the complete details of Hanuman Janmotsav 2025, including its correct date, spiritual significance, and how to perform the puja at home.

When is Hanuman Janmotsav 2025?

As per the Hindu calendar, Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated every year on the day of Chaitra Purnima—the full moon day in the month of Chaitra.

In 2025:

 • Purnima Tithi begins: April 12 at 3:21 AM

 • Purnima Tithi ends: April 13 at 5:51 AM

 • Since Hindu festivals are often celebrated on the basis of the sunrise (uday tithi), Hanuman Janmotsav will be celebrated on April 12, 2025.

Why is Hanuman Janmotsav Celebrated?

Hanuman Janmotsav is not just a religious event—it’s a day of faith, energy, and inspiration. Lord Hanuman is worshipped for his strength, courage, and complete devotion to Lord Rama. He is also seen as a protector from negative energies.

On this special day, devotees gather in temples, chant Hanuman Chalisa, and take part in bhajan-kirtans and community feasts (bhandaras). It’s believed that worshipping Hanuman Ji on this day with full devotion helps remove obstacles, bring good health, and fulfill wishes.

Hanuman Janmotsav 2025 Puja Vidhi (How to Worship)

Performing a simple yet heartfelt puja at home can bring peace and positivity. Here’s how you can do it:

 • Wake up early, take a bath, and wear clean clothes.

 • Place an idol or image of Lord Hanuman on a clean platform.

 • Bathe the idol with Gangajal (holy water), and apply sindoor (vermilion) mixed with chameli oil (jasmine oil).

 • Offer red flowers, bananas, and sweets like boondi or ladoos.

 • Chant Hanuman Chalisa, Bajrang Baan, and Hanuman Ashtak.

 • End the puja with aarti and pray with devotion.

 • You can also organize an Akhanda Ramayan Paath (continuous reading of the Ramayana), which is considered very auspicious.

Why is Hanuman Janmotsav Celebrated Twice a Year?

Interestingly, Hanuman Janmotsav is celebrated twice a year—but in different parts of India.

 • In North India, it is celebrated on Chaitra Purnima (April), which marks Hanuman Ji’s birth.

 • In South India, it is celebrated on Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi (around October-November). According to belief, this is the day when Devi Sita blessed Hanuman with immortality.

Both versions are equally respected and celebrated with devotion.

Devotion Beyond Age and Time

Hanuman Janmotsav is a reminder that true devotion, strength, and service know no limits. Lord Hanuman’s life teaches us to live with courage, stay humble, and dedicate ourselves to a higher purpose.

In today’s busy life, festivals like these bring people together and help us reconnect with our roots. Whether you’re visiting a temple, reading Hanuman Chalisa at home, or simply meditating in silence—what matters most is the bhav (feeling of devotion).

The Indian Premier League (IPL) has always been a platform where young and unknown talents get a chance to shine. The latest addition to this list is Vignesh Puthur, a 24-year-old left-arm chinaman bowler from Malappuram, Kerala. In his debut match for Mumbai Indians (MI) against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on March 23, he delivered a match-winning performance, picking up 3 wickets for 32 runs. But his journey to this stage is nothing short of inspiring.

From Kerala Cricket League to IPL: The Rise of Vignesh Puthur

Vignesh Puthur’s story is an example of sheer dedication and perseverance. The son of an auto-rickshaw driver, Puthur started his cricket journey in the Kerala Cricket League (KCL), where his talent caught the eyes of MI’s scouting team. Despite having little exposure at higher levels, his accuracy, ability to turn the ball, and calmness under pressure impressed the team’s management.

In the IPL 2025 auction, Mumbai Indians picked him for Rs 30 lakh, betting on his raw potential. After the auction, he was sent to MI Cape Town’s training camp in South Africa, where he trained alongside some of the biggest names in cricket, including Rashid Khan. This experience boosted his confidence, preparing him for the high-pressure environment of the IPL.

A Debut to Remember: CSK vs MI

When Mumbai Indians handed him his debut cap against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk, Puthur knew he had to prove himself on the big stage. With MS Dhoni leading CSK and a packed stadium cheering, the pressure was immense. But the young spinner showed nerves of steel, dismissing three key batters: Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, and Deepak Hooda.

His breakthrough performance helped Mumbai Indians defend their total and secure a crucial win. The team’s bowling coach, Paras Mhambrey, later revealed that Puthur had troubled star players like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma during net sessions, which convinced the management to give him a chance in this high-stakes game.

A Special Moment: Dhoni’s Words of Wisdom

After the match, an unforgettable moment unfolded between MS Dhoni and Vignesh Puthur. The young spinner, in awe of the legendary wicketkeeper-batsman, was approached by Dhoni himself.

Dhoni: “You bowled well today, Vignesh. What was going through your mind when you saw me at the crease?”

Puthur (smiling nervously): “Honestly, Mahi bhai, I was hoping you wouldn’t hit me for sixes! But I just focused on my strengths.”

Dhoni (laughing): “Good mindset! Always believe in yourself. No matter how big the stage, just bowl the way you did today. If you stay calm, you will win many more matches for MI.”

For Puthur, these words from one of India’s greatest captains were as valuable as the three wickets he had taken. The young bowler later said, “Getting Dhoni bhai’s advice after my first IPL match is something I will cherish forever.”

What’s Next for Vignesh Puthur?

With his impressive debut, Vignesh Puthur has announced himself on the IPL stage. The Mumbai Indians management is excited about his future, and if he continues to perform consistently, he could soon become a regular match-winner for the team.

His journey from a small town in Kerala to playing in the world’s biggest T20 league is an inspiration for aspiring cricketers. With hard work, determination, and the right opportunities, dreams do come true.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, Mumbai Indians secured their second WPL title in three seasons, defeating Meg Lanning’s Delhi Capitals by 8 runs in a closely fought battle on March 15, 2025.

Mumbai Indians’ Triumph in the Final

Mumbai Indians set a target of 150 runs, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur leading from the front with a solid 66-run knock. Nat Sciver-Brunt provided crucial support, both with the bat and ball, proving to be the match-winner once again.

However, MI’s innings saw a rollercoaster ride. From 14/2, Harmanpreet and Sciver-Brunt built a steady partnership, but a dramatic collapse saw them lose four wickets for just 15 runs, slipping from 103/2 to 118/6. Marizanne Kapp was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi, dismantling MI’s openers early on.

Despite the setback, Mumbai managed to post 149/8 in their 20 overs.

Delhi’s Chase Falls Short

Chasing 150, Delhi Capitals had a decent start, but Mumbai’s bowling attack kept them under pressure. Nat Sciver-Brunt shone with the ball, taking three crucial wickets, including those of Meg Lanning and Marizanne Kapp, which shifted momentum in Mumbai’s favor.

The post Holi & Holika Dahan: Festival of Colors, Traditions & Significance appeared first on TIME4STAR.

]]>

Holi, the festival of colors, is one of the most joyous and widely celebrated festivals in India. It marks the arrival of spring and symbolizes love, happiness, and the victory of good over evil. The festival is celebrated with enthusiasm, bringing people together regardless of age, caste, or religion. Before the grand celebrations of colors, Holika Dahan, an important ritual, takes place on the eve of Holi. This bonfire ceremony signifies the triumph of good over evil and is deeply rooted in Hindu mythology.

In this blog, we will explore the significance, traditions, and celebrations of Holi and Holika Dahan in India.

History and Mythology of Holi

The origins of Holi can be traced back to various mythological stories. The most prominent legend associated with Holi is that of Prahlad and Holika.

According to Hindu mythology, there was once a demon king named Hiranyakashipu, who wanted everyone to worship him instead of Lord Vishnu. However, his son Prahlad was a devoted follower of Vishnu. Hiranyakashipu was furious and sought to kill his own son. He sought the help of his sister Holika, who had a divine cloak that made her immune to fire. She tricked Prahlad into sitting with her in a fire, thinking he would perish. However, due to his unwavering devotion, Vishnu saved Prahlad, while Holika burned to ashes. This event is commemorated as Holika Dahan, symbolizing the victory of good over evil.

Another famous story is that of Radha and Krishna. Lord Krishna, known for his playful nature, was concerned about his dark complexion compared to Radha’s fair skin. His mother, Yashoda, playfully suggested that he color Radha’s face with gulal. This act led to the tradition of playing with colors during Holi.

Holika Dahan: The Bonfire Ceremony

When is Holika Dahan Celebrated? Holika Dahan is observed on the night before Holi, known as Choti Holi. It usually falls on the full moon night of the Hindu month Phalguna (February-March).

Significance of Holika Dahan The ritual of Holika Dahan signifies the burning away of evil forces and negativity. It encourages people to let go of past grudges, anger, and hatred, embracing love and harmony.

Rituals of Holika Dahan

 1. Gathering Firewood: People collect wood and combustible materials to prepare a large bonfire.
 2. Creating an Effigy: An effigy of Holika, symbolizing evil, is placed in the bonfire.
 3. Puja and Offerings: Families perform prayers and offer roli (red powder), turmeric, coconut, and grains to the fire.
 4. Burning the Fire: The bonfire is lit, and people chant religious hymns while walking around it, seeking blessings.
 5. Holika Ashes: The next day, devotees apply the sacred ash from the fire on their foreheads, believing it protects them from evil.

Holi: The Festival of Colors

After the night of Holika Dahan, Holi is celebrated with unmatched joy and enthusiasm. It is a day filled with colors, music, dance, and laughter.

How is Holi Celebrated?

 1. Playing with Colors: People smear each other with gulal (dry colors) and splash colored water.
 2. Water Balloons and Pichkaris: Children and adults enjoy throwing water balloons and spraying colors using water guns.
 3. Traditional Sweets: Delicious sweets like gujiya, malpua, and thandai are prepared and shared.
 4. Music and Dance: People gather in groups, playing dhol (drums) and dancing to folk and Bollywood Holi songs.
 5. Community Bonding: Friends and families visit each other, applying colors and exchanging greetings.

Regional Variations of Holi

Holi is celebrated differently across India, with each region adding its unique traditions:

 1. Lathmar Holi (Barsana & Nandgaon, Uttar Pradesh): Women playfully beat men with sticks, recreating the playful teasing of Radha and Krishna.
 2. Basant Utsav (West Bengal): Inspired by the poetry of Rabindranath Tagore, people wear yellow outfits and celebrate with cultural performances.
 3. Shigmo (Goa): A grand parade with folk dances and vibrant costumes marks the festival.
 4. Royal Holi (Rajasthan): Celebrated with grand processions, elephant parades, and folk performances.
 5. Holi in Mathura & Vrindavan: A week-long celebration in Krishna’s birthplace with temple rituals and flower Holi.

The Spiritual and Social Importance of Holi

Holi is more than just a festival of colors; it fosters unity, friendship, and social harmony. It erases social barriers and brings people together in the spirit of joy. The festival also holds spiritual significance, reminding us of the power of good over evil and the importance of love, forgiveness, and new beginnings.

Conclusion

Holi and Holika Dahan are deeply rooted in Indian culture, symbolizing joy, togetherness, and positivity. As you celebrate this festival, remember its rich traditions and significance. Play safe, respect others, and spread happiness with colors.

Wishing you all a very Happy and Colorful Holi!

India emerged victorious in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 final by defeating New Zealand by four wickets in a thrilling encounter at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. With an explosive knock from skipper Rohit Sharma and key contributions from Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, India successfully chased down the 252-run target with an over to spare.

Rohit Sharma Leads from the Front

India’s chase was off to a strong start, thanks to a brilliant knock by captain Rohit Sharma. He played an aggressive yet composed innings, scoring 76 off 83 balls. Rohit set the tone in the powerplay and reached his half-century in just 41 balls. His crucial 105-run opening partnership with Shubman Gill put India in a commanding position.

New Zealand, however, struck back with quick breakthroughs. Glenn Phillips took a stunning catch to dismiss Gill for 31 off 50 balls, followed by Michael Bracewell trapping Virat Kohli LBW for just 1. Rohit continued to anchor the innings but was eventually stumped for 76 off 83 deliveries.

Middle Order Resilience

With the game finely balanced, Shreyas Iyer (48 off 62) and Axar Patel (29 off 40) stitched together a 61-run stand to stabilize India’s innings. However, their dismissals brought fresh tension to the chase. KL Rahul and Hardik Pandya then played crucial knocks, guiding India closer to the target. While Hardik departed for 18, KL Rahul remained unbeaten on 34 off 33 balls, ensuring India’s victory with one over remaining.

India’s Spinners Dominate

Earlier in the match, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bat first. Their openers, Rachin Ravindra and Will Young, put up a 57-run stand before India’s spin attack took control. Varun Chakravarthy struck first, trapping Young LBW for 15. Kuldeep Yadav then dismissed Rachin for 37 and followed it up by removing Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson for 11.

Ravindra Jadeja joined the attack and dismissed Tom Latham (14), while Daryl Mitchell played a patient innings, scoring 63 off 101 balls. Michael Bracewell’s unbeaten 53 off 40 balls helped New Zealand reach a respectable total of 251/7 in 50 overs. However, with India’s balanced bowling attack and disciplined chase, the target was not enough.

India secured a thrilling four-wicket victory over Australia in the semi-finals of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, booking their place in the final. The match, held at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, saw a brilliant knock from Virat Kohli, who scored 84 off 98 balls, guiding India in a high-pressure chase of 265 runs. Mohammed Shami led India’s bowling attack with figures of 3/48, ensuring Australia was restricted to 264 runs in 49.3 overs.

Kohli’s Record-Breaking Knock

Virat Kohli once again proved his class in run chases, surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for most 50-plus scores in ICC ODI tournaments. Kohli now has 24 such scores, overtaking Tendulkar’s 23. His well-paced innings kept India on track, despite losing wickets at crucial moments.

India’s Chase: Steady Partnerships Seal the Win

Chasing 265, India got off to an aggressive start, with Rohit Sharma (28 off 29) and Shubman Gill attacking the Australian bowlers early on. However, both departed inside the first eight overs, leaving India at 55/2 after the powerplay. Kohli then built a crucial 91-run partnership with Shreyas Iyer (48), stabilizing the innings.

After Iyer’s dismissal, Axar Patel (27) played a quick cameo, but Australia fought back with regular wickets. When Kohli was dismissed in the 43rd over, India still needed runs, but KL Rahul (42) and Hardik Pandya (36 off 33)* ensured there were no further hiccups. India reached the target in 48.1 overs, winning with 11 balls to spare.

Australia’s Batting Effort

Batting first, Steve Smith (79) was the standout performer for Australia, while Alex Carey (61) provided resistance in the middle order. Travis Head (39) and Marnus Labuschagne (28) contributed, but Shami (3/48) and Ravindra Jadeja (2/41) kept Australia in check. The Australian lower order struggled, and the team was all out for 264.

India put up a solid performance to defeat New Zealand by 44 runs in their final group-stage match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With this win, India finished at the top of Group A and set up a semifinal clash against Australia.

Varun Chakravarthy Leads India to Victory

Varun Chakravarthy was the star of the match, delivering an outstanding bowling performance by taking five wickets. His spell dismantled New Zealand’s batting lineup, restricting them to 205 runs while chasing a target of 250. The Black Caps’ skipper Kane Williamson fought hard, scoring 81 runs, but his efforts weren’t enough to take his team over the line.

India’s Batting Struggles Before Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel Steady the Innings

Earlier in the game, New Zealand won the toss and opted to bowl first at Dubai International Stadium. The decision worked in their favor as India had a shaky start, losing three key wickets—Rohit Sharma (15), Shubman Gill (2), and Virat Kohli (11)—within the first seven overs.

Shreyas Iyer (79) and Axar Patel (42) stepped up to stabilize the innings, putting together a crucial partnership. However, New Zealand’s Matt Henry kept the pressure on with a five-wicket haul, ensuring India couldn’t go beyond 249/9 in their allotted 50 overs.

New Zealand’s Chase Falls Short

Despite Williamson’s brilliant knock, New Zealand struggled to build partnerships. Chakravarthy’s magic with the ball, supported by the efforts of Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami, ensured that the Kiwis were bowled out for 205 in 45.3 overs, handing India a comfortable win.

India vs Australia – A High-Voltage Semifinal Awaits

With this victory, India has set up an exciting semifinal clash against Australia. Meanwhile, New Zealand will face South Africa in the other semifinal. The tournament now moves into its knockout stage, where every match will be a battle for glory.

Stay tuned for more updates on India’s journey in the Champions Trophy 2025!

The Board for Veteran Cricket in India (BVCI) has been making remarkable strides in promoting Veteran Cricket across India. This initiative offers a second innings to retired cricketers, particularly those who have played in Ranji Trophy, Duleep Trophy, Mushtaq Ali Trophy, and other major domestic leagues. Some former Indian cricketers are also part of this growing movement.

BVCI is led by Praveen Tyagi ( As President BVCI ) , a real estate magnate and CMD of the prestigious VVIP Group, known for delivering quality projects in Delhi-NCR. His love for cricket is well-recognized, and his efforts in developing veteran cricket in India have provided a structured platform for ex-cricketers aged 40 and above. This initiative ensures that these players get a full season of competitive cricket every year.

Structure of Veteran Cricket in India

BVCI has divided India into five zones, similar to mainstream domestic cricket. From February 26 to February 28, 2025, BVCI organized the Inter-State Veteran Cricket Championship at VVIP Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ghaziabad. The tournament featured four competing teams: Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh.

In an exclusive conversation with CMD Praveen Tyagi, he shared his vision for veteran cricket in India:

“Veteran Cricket has given a new momentum to retired cricketers, allowing them to continue playing competitive cricket. Many players, after turning 40, either retire completely, run their cricket academies, or take up coaching roles. Some are employed in Public Sector Units (PSUs) under sports quotas, balancing work and family responsibilities. As a result, cricket takes a backseat. Our aim is to bring these players back into the game through veteran cricket.”

Success of IVPL - Indian Veteran Premier League

BVCI successfully organized Season 1 of IVPL – Indian Veteran Premier League, featuring 84 world-class former cricketers from countries like India, Sri Lanka, Australia, West Indies, and South Africa. Some of the top players included:

 • Virender Sehwag (India)
 • Sanath Jayasuriya (Sri Lanka)
 • Christopher Mpofu (Zimbabwe)
 • Richard Levi (South Africa)
 • Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka)
 • Harbhajan Singh (India)
 • Yusuf Pathan (India)
 • Phil Mustard (England)

This six-franchise league was a mini-IPL for veteran cricketers, with live telecasts that gained immense popularity. The second season is set to be even bigger.

Praveen Tyagi also announced that the top performers from all four teams in the Inter-State Championship will be selected for the Central Zone Team. These players will then compete at the National Veteran Tournament in Dehradun later this year, which will help in forming the National Veteran Cricket Team.

District & State-Level Competitions

To ensure a robust structure, BVCI organizes district-level tournaments, supervised by zonal heads. State teams are then formed based on these performances, and they participate in Inter-State Zonal Leagues. The Central Zone League is currently being hosted in Ghaziabad, with matches streamed live on CricHeroes and VVIP News.

Exclusive Interview with Ravindra Tyagi

During the final match on February 28, 2025, we spoke to Ravindra Tyagi, President of UP Veterans and Vice President of BVCI. He shared his excitement:

“We are thrilled that the Uttar Pradesh team reached the finals. Delhi had many Ranji and Duleep Trophy players, while Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh also had strong squads. The competition was intense, making every match a thrilling experience. Even amateur players are getting a chance to play alongside first-class cricketers, making their dreams come true.”

The Grand Finale: Rajasthan vs. Uttar Pradesh

The final match was an exciting contest between Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, Ghaziabad.

 • Toss: Rajasthan won and chose to bat first on a turning track.
 • Rajasthan’s Batting: None of the batters managed big scores, but Captain Deepak (28 runs) and a quickfire cameo by Narender Meena (28 runs off 9 balls) helped Rajasthan post 129/9 in 20 overs.
 • UP’s Bowling: Left-arm spinner Mrityunjay took 3 wickets, while Vikrant and K.S. Rana grabbed 2 wickets each.
 • UP’s Chase: UP was at 78/2 in 12 overs when rain interrupted play. DLS method was applied, and UP was declared winners by 8 runs.

Key Performers:

 • Man of the Match: Narender Meena (28 runs off 9 balls & 2 wickets)
 • Man of the Series: Narender Meena (all-round excellence)
 • Best Batsman: Alok Ranjan

The prize distribution was led by BVCI President Praveen Tyagi, Vice President Ravindra Tyagi, and Rajendra Tyagi, a former police officer and sports gold medalist from Rajasthan.

A Grand Closing Ceremony

The final match was witnessed by several dignitaries, including:

 • Vibhor & Vaibhav Tyagi – MD’s, VVIP Group
 • Vijay Bansal – Treasurer, UP Veterans
 • Mukesh Tyagi & Vipin Sirohi

The commentary team, led by National Sports Anchor Aalok Saxena and Avnish Tyagi, kept the audience entertained throughout the tournament.

Other key attendees included Dinesh Sharma (Senior Coach, Ghaziabad), Atul Sharma (Secretary, UP Veterans), Deepak Tyagi (Caretaker, Nehru Stadium), and Manoj Ahlawat & Dushyant Tyagi (VVIP Group Officials).

Conclusion

The Inter-State Veteran Cricket Championship 2025 was a huge success, highlighting the growing popularity of Veteran Cricket in India. With the IVPL and national-level tournaments gaining momentum, BVCI is playing a crucial role in reviving cricket careers for players above 40.

With more leagues and championships on the horizon, Veteran Cricket in India is set to become bigger and better in the years to come.
