India has gained international recognition in sports time and again. Once again, the most powerful athlete of India, Neeraj Chopra, made 140 Crores of Indians proud when he struck gold once more. He achieved another historic performance on Sunday, becoming the first Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the World Athletics Championship 2023 in Budapest, Hungary.
In his second attempt, Neeraj executed a golden throw, launching a magical distance of 88.17 meters. This distance stands as the highest recorded by any athlete in the event, securing the gold for Neeraj and making him the first-ever Indian athlete to win a gold medal in the World Athletic Championship 2023. In the previous edition, he won the silver medal in 2022.

After clinching the gold, a happy and proud Neeraj shared his thoughts, saying, “This has been a great championship for India, and I am proud to bring another title to my country.” The Indian ace humbly continued, “I don’t think I am the best thrower here. I wanted to throw more tonight. I wanted to throw more than 90m tonight, but it requires all parts of the puzzle to be there. I couldn’t put it all together this evening. Maybe next time.”

Neeraj was dissatisfied with his performance until the finals. He struggled to find his rhythm and start strong in the event. Reaching the finals with just 79 meters of performance left him unsatisfied. He worked hard, rejuvenated himself with commitment, and aimed to throw beyond 90 meters. Holding the national record of 89.9 meters, he made a commitment to himself. Despite the challenges of maintaining his calm and momentum, he set out to outshine everyone and return with double power for the final throw. The crowd’s support propelled him every step of the way, granting him the strength to shine and achieve an extraordinary distance of 88.17 meters, filling every Indian with pride once again on Sunday.

The silver medal was won by Pakistan’s Arshad Nadeem, who reached a distance of 87.8 meters, securing the second position. The bronze medal went to Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, covering a distance of 87.82 meters. On India’s part, two other athletes, Kishore Jena with the highest throw of 84.77 meters, and D P Manu with the highest throw of 84.14 meters, showcased excellent performances. Though they didn’t make it to the podium, they displayed remarkable skill by securing positions within the top 8 in the World Athletics Championship.
